New World's Little Garden

New World's Little Garden is fun

The New World chain of New Zealand supermarkets is giving away these little pots and seeds. Usually they give away little toys resembling supermarket items, but this time it's the little pots and seeds.

I think it's a nifty idea. We've got a lot of stuff to grow but so far have planted cress, cherry tomatoes and mint.

Gardening is definitely not one of my passions but I am enjoying this. I think it's a great way to get the young ones interested in gardening.

Here's a picture of the cress. We planted the cherry tomatoes and mint this morning so it will be a few days before we see some activity in those pots.

  4. It is a wonderful idea, indeed.
Some chain of supermarkets in The Netherlands do the same, a precious gift which gives lots of pleasure. Especially to the children who have not only lots of fun with it but also learn a lot of it.

    Have a wonderful ABC-day / – week

  5. What a good promotion! One of our local supermarkets used to do a seed planting activity on Earth Day (a day in April that the environment is celebrated in the United States) but they didn't do it this year. I missed it! Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. It sure is Alana. I'm hoping they'll do it again. We celebrate Earth Day too but usually by switiching off all electric appliances, lights etc for an hour and just sitting in silence.

  7. What a thoughtful idea! I'm contemplating on growing some herbs on my kitchen window sill. Hope it works out. I'm not good with gardening but want to give it a shot.

  8. I'm pretty bad at gardening so I was pleasantly surprised when the mustard and fenugreek I planted recently sprouted so well! I think this is a great alternative gift idea for young kids, for sure. Help them understand things from that age.

  10. What a great idea, Suzy! Thanks for the comment. I didn't know that you lived in New Zealand. I enjoyed my stay there greatly. NZ is one of my two most favourite countries The other one is Norway, which we used to visit often with the family.
