Taking our minds off some discomfort
I took some time off work to be with him and we spent a few hours a day playing board games. We're a board games family and enjoy spending some time together this way.
Some of our favourite games are Cluedo, Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly and Scrabble. We also love solving jigsaw puzzles. Well this week it was Scrabble all the way and a great way to take his mind off his teeth.
And these are the moments I want to remember. Why you may ask does one want to remember the discomfort? Because that makes me remember the fun time too and it makes him a stronger boy for the future.
It also brings back memories of my childhood playing scrabble with my grandfather and grandmother.
Share your moments too and if you love playing board games let me know which ones.

Thanks for the comment on my blog. I remember getting my teeth out for braces too. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteYes pretty yuk Martyso. But I guess it's short term pain for long term gain. Thanks for visiting.
DeleteI loved to play games as a child--Clue, Monopoly, Payday. Now my children are too much into their electronics, and we don't spend time together this way. I still play Scrabble and Words with Friends on the computer, though. Good for your family that you can distract your son with playing games.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mlissabeth. Board games are so much fun and also foster interaction. We love our board games.
DeleteI love games but am terrible at scrabble :) I remember the early days of braces and it was no fun!
ReplyDeleteHi Dorothy. I had braces too (retainers) - I got so fed up of them, I broke the plates and refused to go back.
DeleteIt sounds as if it will make a sweet memory.
ReplyDeleteIt sure will Rosemary.
DeleteWhen my husband and I were in college, Trivial Pursuit was in it's heyday... we would play with our dorm mates.
ReplyDeleteI hope your son settles into his braces soon. Both of my kids had braces, I can empathize with him and you.
Thanks Tara. He's getting used to them now but will be a few days still before he can eat normal food.
DeleteHi Suzy ~~ Well, it isn't pleasant to have teeth pulled. But it sounds like there was a good reason for your son's. I do hope it all goes well. I've had four pulled and were supposed to replace them. But I didn't, yet.
ReplyDeleteMy grandkids won't play board games with me any more. We have played Monopoly and Scrabble The next youngest when she was six loved Monopoly. She made up her own rules a lot but she met my match as I won anyway. End of that game.
..
Thanks Jim. He's slowly getting there. I love how your granddaughter made up the rules. That made me chuckle.
DeleteI am not a dentist fan so I sympathize for your son. I did the braces thing when I was in my 40s! I'm sure it will be much easier on him at a younger age.
ReplyDeleteBoard games... I have to admit, Candyland is still my favorite!
Happy Sundays In My City. jj
Oh wow Joanna. Braces at 40 must've been hard - you are brave! Will have to check out Candyland. Sounds sweet!
DeleteI need to have my wisdom teeth pulled, but I'm not in any hurry. LOL Hope your son's feeling better.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dana, yes he's a lot better now. When you do get your teeth pulled, I hope it goes well.
DeleteNice post.
ReplyDeleteMy lovely wife regulatory beats me at the very scrabble-like words with friends on facebook.
Not a board game, be we play Mexican Train dominoes with my 92 year old mom. [It's my late mother in law's house we're selling]
Cheers!

Thanks JzB - I had to look up Mexican train dominoes - sounds like an interesting game. Will have to try and find it somewhere.
