Early Morning Looking Out The Window

I love looking out the window in the early Wellington morning sipping my cuppa. It's always so quiet and the hills look so serene. This picture was taken a few months ago in the late Summer - early Autumn. The hills are looking greener now in Winter with the rain falling often.

"I look out of this window and I think, this is a cosmos, this is a huge creation, this is one small corner of it. The trees, the birds, and everything else and I'm part of it.
I didn't ask to be put here, I've been lucky in finding myself here."
~ Morris West.

Four Corners Of The World ... #BarAThon

I am taking part in the Blog-A-Rhythm Bar-a-thon challenge. The theme can be anything that requires grit and endurance, but not necessarily fitness related. And there are daily prompts.

So my theme is simple, it's a blogging marathon about things to do with me in pictures, starting at one and ending at seven.
~

These four little bears are actually Christmas ornaments for the tree but they are quite heavy so instead they sit in a little tray in my room.

As today's prompt is Four Corners Of The World, these bears are going to take you on a journey to some places.

When my son was little, he drove Santa Bear from the North Pole nuts by asking for things that he had conjured up in his mind.  Santa Bear was pretty clever and his improvisations and apology notes invariably brought joy to my little boy.

The US Bear recalls the first time both my kids visited the US. My daughter was seven when she and I first visited and we travelled to a few cities. But the one journey that we both will never forget is flying over the Rocky Mountains from LA to St. Louis. It was a magnificent day and the mountains were so clear to see.  My son was eight when he first visited the US. He was fascinated by the bridges in San Fransisco and New York. Perhaps that fascination led him to becoming an architect.

New Zealand Bear recalls the first time I landed in New Zealand. The flight into Wellington was beautiful and the city looked spectacular nestled among hills. Each time I fly into Wellington, I pray that the weather is good as it is such a scenic city and it's such a thrill flying over the suburbs and trying to figure out where you are.

And last but not least, UK Bear recalls a very enjoyable trip to the UK many moons ago. Of course we visited London, but it's not London I'm going to write about but Pontypridd in Wales. My aunt's house is high up on a hill and during the day the scenery looked just like any other, a view of the valley and houses. But at night, when the city lights came on, it looked like Fairyland. That's a sight I won't forget.

Hope you enjoyed the four corners of the world with the little bears.

Share in the comments, a moment that comes back so vividly that you can actually relive it just as if it was happening now.

Check out some Day 4 posts for the #BarAThon.

Down Down Down ... #SixWordSaturday #ABCWednesday #WordlessWednesday #OurWorldTuesday #WATW

Down Down Down ...

Down on the floor I went

Yesterday at work, while trying to pick up a coin I had dropped on the floor, I felt the chair slowly slide away and down I went. Luckily it was in slow motion so I was able to break the fall safely with my arm. I think I was more embarrased than hurt! Thank goodness no one took a picture :)
Instead I'll share the view from my window.

view of Mt Victoria

Down went the temperatures - thank goodness

This Summer has been unusually hot. Temps in Summer average around 18C but in January temperatures were soaring and we were melting.  And then suddenly down went the temperatures. And yesterday it was so cold at 13C.  We prayed for cooler temperatures but not so cold!

yesterday 13C felt like 10C - way too cold for Summer

today's temperature and it's just nice at 17C

Down the stairs went the puppy

And for the first time last Sunday, my daughter's puppy went down the stairs. He's growing so fast.

Have a dreamy week.

Beehive Baby announced by NZ PM

Two days ago the Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Arden announced that she was pregnant and her baby is due to arrive in June.

But that gives me an opportunity to post some Beehive pictures.

One of the highlights was Instagram.
And I have truly enjoyed that.

So here are my top three 2017 Instagram photos.

Lights is the word for L #SixWordSaturday #ABCWednesday

Daytime and lights on - wasted electricity

These pictures were taken from the bus on my way to work in the morning a few days ago at approximately 8.00am.

Couldn't help notice the lights on. Such a waste of electricity.

So many Quays

Wellington has a penchant for Quays

There are so many quays in Wellington: Jervois Quay, Customhouse Quay, Waterloo Quay, Thorndon Quay and Lambton Quay.

Today I share some pics of Lambton Quay the main street in Wellington. I took these quite some time ago. Maybe there are a few changes but by and large it still is the same.

iconic Kirkcaldie and Stains no longer exists
but David Jones is expected to open at Christmas

A couple of fragments this week

Mother's day tomorrow so I spent this morning making my mom a card. She likes perfume so I got her Elizabeth Arden's 5th Avenue,

I've ordered some art books so looking forward to receiving them. They've been dispatched so should arrive soon.

I guess that's all this week.

Happy Mother's Day to all moms and grandmoms.

Awesome Aspect

Woke up to an awesome aspect

I love the hills that surround my house and it's my early morning ritual to watch them while I sip my tea. The hills look so serene and I feel so peaceful.

But few days ago I drew open the curtains and my eyes lit up in wonder. What an awesome sight, Particularly since it rarely snows in Wellington. The last time it snowed was in 2011.

It's been freezing cold the last few days. Winters in Wellington are cold, but the last few days have been unusually extra cold.

So here is a picture of the hills with some snow

Interesting and International

Armchair travelling can be interesting too

So many International events have taken place in the last couple of weeks.

On February 20 1000 bloggers came together to speak for compassion via their blogs. Compassion the Soul Connection was my contribution.

March 1 was World Compliment Day and March 8 was International Women's Day. Bloggers across the world celebrated with blog posts complimenting someone (mine at World Compliment Day) and honouring women respectively. Let Her Light Shine On was my tribute to a young soul who died tragically but bravely in 2012.

And here in New Zealand we are in the midst of the International One Day Cricket World Cup which is so exciting and so much fun to watch especially since NZ is hosting jointly with Australia and has qualified for the quarter finals.

As part of the match coverage so many beautiful cities across New Zealand are being showcased. Armchair travelling can be interesting and fun.

So here is a glimpse into my beautiful capital city as seen on TV.  Love my city and love my camera.

Bucket Fountain at Cuba Mall. Buckets fill up with water and then tip over.
Kids love to stop and watch.

A fun and scenic ride up and down.

Some interesting building architecture around with blend of old and new

Windmills

Windmills in Windy Wellington suddenly appeared

The hills by large look the same everyday and yet each day you notice something different. The sun playing games and making patterns on it, or a house being built here and there, cows and sheep, sometimes deer.

Then one day you look up and suddenly notice something quite different on the horizon. And here's what I saw:

Windmills!

And here's what it looks like up close:

Windmills in Windy Wellington make complete sense.

Views of Victoria University

Victoria University has some interesting campuses

After last week's unusual sky I thought I would post something more down to earth.

So this week for the letter V I thought I would showcase Wellington's University - Victoria.

Unfortunately I don't have pics of the main campus (note to self, to take some pics next time I'm there).

But here are pics of the other campus buildings:

Pipitea Campus - Victoria Business School and Faculty of Law

Faculty of Law - one of the largest wooden buildings in the Southern Hemisphere built in 1876 to house the NZ Civil Service.

Business School

Te Aro Campus - School of Architecture and Design
