The Mirage, Las Vegas

The Mirage was our hotel in Las Vegas. It is a beautiful hotel.

Lots of things to do at the Mirage (other than the casino) - the tigers, the secret garden, the dolphins, the volcano.

Here are some pics of the Mirage

Skating at the Rockefeller Centre, New York

I was watching the British Television show Dancing on Ice this afternoon and that triggered today's post.

Here are pics of the ice skating rink at the Rockefeller Centre in New York. Great fun to watch the skaters.

An interesting chessboard

Okay the snow is gone so it's time to change the subject.

Thought I'd post something quite different.

So here is a pic of the Muppets chessboard that belongs to a good friend of mine. So cute.

Frosty the Snowman

How can you not make a snowman when it's snowing?

Today I decided I was going to be a kid again and make one.

I had thought I would make one at least 3 feet tall but ended up with a tiny little guy as it was so cold and my hands froze.

Here he is ... Frosty the snowman (or Pingu the snowman as the kid calls him).

Snow, Snow, Snow Unbelievable

It's been snowing since yesterday and the hills around where I live look like ski fields. It's so spectacular.

This is really unbelievable. It's even snowing in the city at sea level. That's never happened before. It's so exciting.

Here are some pics.

Caesars Palace, Las Vegas

The Caesars Palace is named after the Roman General Julius Caesar to evoke thoughts of royalty.

It's a grand hotel. The ceiling simulates the sky - an interesting feature.

Bellagio, Las Vegas

The Bellagio is based on the Lake Como resort of Bellagio in Italy.

The Christmas decorations were beautiful and the ceiling was quite amazing.

And the fountains set to music were so much fun to watch. The day we were there, they danced to "Hey Big Spender".

Here are some of my pics.

Luxor, Las Vegas

Las Vegas is such a fun city. Over the next few days I'll post some of my pics from Las Vegas.

And I'll start with The Luxor.

It's the closest I've been to the pyramids. (The real thing is of course on my places to see list).

The Luxor looks pretty grand from the outside but the inside is quite eerie.

An interesting fact about the Luxor (taken from wikipedia): The tip of the pyramid contains a fixed position spotlight that points directly upward and is claimed to be the brightest beam in the world.
