NaBloPoMo 01 - City of Sails

Thought I would take the NaBloPoMo challenge.

NaBloPoMo = National Blog Posting Month

In a nutshell, you have to register for NaBloPoMo and publish at least one post each day for the whole month of November.

So here it is ... the first post of the November NaBloPoMo and this post is on Auckland, New Zealand's largest city.

Some interesting facts about Auckland:

  • Known as the City of Sails because of the hundreds of yachts in its harbour
  • Has more yachts per capita than any other city in the world
  • The Sky Tower is the tallest free standing structure in the entire Southern Hemisphere
  • Comprises of about 50 dormant volcanoes, the largest volcano is on Rangitoto Island
  • The Maori name for Auckland is Tamaki Makaurau meaning "the isthmus of one thousand lovers"

  1. Auckland has a pretty skyline. How interesting that the Sky Tower is the tallest free standing structure in the entire Southern Hemisphere. Toronto used to have the tallest in the Northern Hemisphere until Dubai built one taller.
